    Metrocare is the largest provider of mental health services in Dallas County, serving more than 57,000 adults and children annually. For more than fifty (50) years, Metrocare has provided an array of services available to people with mental and developmental disabilities. In addition to behavioral health services, Metrocare provides primary care centers for adults and children, accessible pharmacies, housing and supportive social services. Through the Altshuler Center for Education & Research we are advancing mental health beyond Dallas County.


    The QMHP-Young Child position provides skills and case management services to young children (ages 3-6) and their families.  Services may include, but are not limited to, assessment, development of measurable treatment goals and objectives, referral, linkage, development of natural supports, advocacy, monitoring, crisis intervention and continuity of care. The overall goal of this position is to provide intervention early in the life of a child with the goal of reducing symptoms, improve overall functioning, and build strength in resiliency in the child and the caregiver with a focus on the primary relationships in order to influence future socio-emotional behavior and future relationship behavior. 


    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:  (Other duties may be assigned.)

    • Provide overall service coordination, referral, linkage, and advocacy to children and caregivers with varying needs. Perform duties in concert with other members of an interdisciplinary treatment team. Services are to be provided in the most convenient location for the child and caregiver. 
    • Complete a psychosocial assessment on each new admission.
    • Ensure authorization for clinical services.
    • Formulate individual recovery plan based on assessment findings and input from the supports on all new admission.
    • Develop measurable objectives and goals agreed upon by caregiver.
      1. Actively assist in obtaining and modifying goals as needed.
      2. Document attempts to involve child and caregiver, service providers, and caregivers unless opposed by the child and caregiver) in service plan process.
    • Review recovery plans every three months for children or as clinically indicated.
    • Actively engage and document on all children assigned to caseload.
    • Participate in interdisciplinary team staffing. Present psychosocial assessment findings. Update team on progress or lack of progress in reaching agreed upon goals. Provide relevant information that might effect treatment.
    • Follow-up with assigned children and caregivers who miss a scheduled clinic appointment. Document attempts to contact individual. Report repeated unsuccessful efforts to contact the treatment team.
    • Follow-up within 24-48 hours on assigned children who access emergency services. Report status-disposition to treatment team.
    • Meet with the families within 3 days of hospital discharge or assignment in the community.
    • Provide crisis intervention.
    • Provide individual, family, and group skills sessions. Evaluate progress of clinical session, solicit feedback from individual(s), and consult with colleagues and team leaders when dealing with unfamiliar/uncomfortable issues.

    Bachelor’s degree in human services with 1 to 3 years experience in MH/MR or related field or Masters degree with 0 to 2 years experience in human services.



    • Ability to organize work flow and develop efficient clinic procedures
    • Ability to effectively manage a large caseload of individuals with varying needs.
    • Ability to problem solve, exercise good judgment, and make sound decisions.
    • Skilled in using tact and diplomacy in interacting with staff and individuals.
    • Ability to work as a team member.
    • Able to maintain work in 95% compliance of standards at all times.
    • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
    • Ability to organize and prioritize tasks.
    • Able to work independently with minimal supervision.
    • Able to work flexible hours.
    • Ability to successfully use an automated clinical record keeping system.                   


    • Intermediate level on MS Excel, Email and word processing programs
    • Ability to utilize Internet for resources.

    While performing the duties of this job, the incumbent is regularly required to talk and hear, use hands and fingers to operate a computer and telephone. Due to the multi-site responsibilities of this position the incumbent must be able to carry equipment and supplies (up to 15 pounds).  The position requires standing and/or walking in excess of 7 hours a day.



    • In-county travel.
    • No overnight travel required.


    Positions that are “community-based,” in whole or part, require the incumbent to travel between various worksites within his/her workday/workweek. The incumbent is required to have reliable transportation that can facilitate this requirement. The incumbent is further required to meet the criteria for insurability by the Center’s risk management facilitator; and produce proof of minimal auto liability coverage when applicable. Failure to meet these terms may result in disciplinary action up to and including termination of employment, contract or other status with Metrocare.
