    Metrocare is the largest provider of mental health services in Dallas County, serving more than 57,000 adults and children annually. For more than fifty (50) years, Metrocare has provided an array of services available to people with mental and developmental disabilities. In addition to behavioral health services, Metrocare provides primary care centers for adults and children, accessible pharmacies, housing and supportive social services. Through the Altshuler Center for Education & Research we are advancing mental health beyond Dallas County.


    The Psychologist Fellow, will provide BTS consumers with psychological services so that their learning experiences are optimized.  Perform professional psychological work in assessment and counseling for students.


    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: (Other duties may be assigned.)

    • Facilitate the completion of in-depth functional assessment of maladaptive behaviors and the development of behavior programs.
    • Develop and coordinate behavioral services needed by consumers in a variety of settings
    • Utilize various assessment instruments and techniques to assist in the identification and interpretation of psychological issues
    • Provide supervision to assigned Behavior Intervention Specialists, if needed.
    • Provide consultation services in school and vocational workshops as indicated.
    • Participate in treatment plan meetings, ARD meetings, and other planning meetings on a regular basis
    • Provides counseling services to identified consumers both in and outside the office.
    • Attends all treatment team staffing meetings and is alert to opportunities for promoting/providing psychosocial rehabilitation or use of community resources for consumers. Contributes to team knowledge and understanding of each consumer.
    • Provides individual and/or small group training in living skills such as social skills, coping skills, personal hygiene, personal organization, anger management, etc.
    • Assists with the involvement and education of the consumer’s family at a level acceptable to the consumer.
    • Assists with monitoring and continued assessment of assigned consumers. These activities require home and community visits.
    • Responds to crisis or potential crisis situations and ensures the appropriate level of care through the coordination of services or the provision of community support services.
    • Documents services in the automated clinical record keeping system with 24 hours after services have occurred.
    • Maintains required productivity levels as outlined in Center/Unit policies.
    • Maintains confidentiality of information concerning consumers and family members.
    • Requires availability for on-call rotation.

    • Self-motivating, able to work independently
    • Strong organizational and time management skills
    • Ability to communicate and collaborate with a variety of individuals, teams and systems.
    • Able to apply working knowledge of MS Office 95/97
    • Knowledge of issues and challenges relating to autism spectrum disorders
    • Knowledge of administration and interpretation of assessment instruments
    • Demonstrated training and experience in individual and group counseling techniques
    • Knowledge of special needs of students in assigned area
    • Knowledge of the ARD process and IEP goal setting process and implementation



    • PHD or Psy.D. in Psychology or BCBA. One year of successfully supervised experience in providing services, assessment and counseling.


    • Basic math skills required for this position. 


    • Ability to apply common sense understanding of Metrocare programs.


    • Valid license as a Licensed Psychologist, Provisionally Licensed Psychologist, or Psychologist Associate granted by the Texas State Board of Examiners of Psychologists
