    Metrocare is the largest provider of mental health services in Dallas County, serving more than 57,000 adults and children annually. For more than fifty (50) years, Metrocare has provided an array of services available to people with mental and developmental disabilities. In addition to behavioral health services, Metrocare provides primary care centers for adults and children, accessible pharmacies, housing and supportive social services. Through the Altshuler Center for Education & Research  we are advancing mental health beyond Dallas County. 


    The primary purpose of this position is to provide training and supports to meet the needs of the consumers living in the group homes.


    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: (Other specific duties may be assigned.)

    The essential functions listed here are representative of those that must be met to successfully perform the job.

    • Assist the consumers with activities of daily living, including: bathing, dressing and personal hygiene, eating, meal planning and preparation, and assisting the consumer with ambulation and mobility.
    • Transport the consumers safely within the community to doctor’s appointments, community outings, day habilitation sites, shopping and other places as needed.
    • Conduct habilitation activities that train the consumer to: develop or improve skills that allow the consumer to live more independently, develop socially valued behaviors, integrate into community activities, use natural supports and typical community services available to the public, and participate in leisure activities.
    • Assist with the administration of the consumer's medication or to perform a task delegated by a registered nurse.
    • Assist the register nurse in monitoring the consumers’ health by reporting potential problems.
    • Complete housekeeping duties to ensure group home is clean and orderly.
    • Maintain all documentation as required for company and state compliance within 24 hours of providing the service.
    • Maintain acceptable work record by being punctual to work and requests PL within acceptable time frames established by supervisor to ensure adequate coverage is available in the home.

    • Highly developed decision-making skills

    • Ability to work independently as a team member in a work setting.
    • Passionate in training and advocating for persons with disabilities.
    • Ability to communicate verbally and in writing in English is required. 



    • High School degree or GED required.
    • 1-2 years of experience working with people with Intellectual/Developmental Disabilities preferred. 


    • Ability to work with reports and numbers. 


    • Ability to be flexible in response to the changing needs of the consumers.
    • Ability to train the consumers in group home and community settings.

    • Able to intervene in consumer crisis interventions.
    • Demonstrate high ethical standards in all professional relationships within the organization and outside of it   


    •  None required. 


    • Intermediate level on MS Word and Excel.   
    • Ability to utilize Internet for resources.
    • Email and word processing programs.
