    Metrocare is the largest provider of mental health services in Dallas County, serving more than 57,000 adults and children annually. For more than fifty (50) years, Metrocare has provided an array of services available to people with mental and developmental disabilities. In addition to behavioral health services, Metrocare provides primary care centers for adults and children, accessible pharmacies, housing and supportive social services. Through the Altshuler Center for Education & Research we are advancing mental health beyond Dallas County.


    The Safety and Security Associate performs safety and security duties as assigned at each agency site. Duties include facility, grounds, parking lot, patrols to check for safety and security hazards, safety inspections, lock and alarm checks, and emergency response.


    The essential functions listed here are representative of those that must be met to successfully perform the job.

    • Performs safety and security patrols; documents and mitigates hazards.
    • Responds to non-police emergency calls to include (but not limited to) fire & security alarms, hazardous material spills and leaks, pedestrian or vehicular traffic control.
    • Performs safety inspections to include (but not limited to) fire equipment condition & safety hazards.
    • Provides walking escort as requested.
    • Resolves conflicts or confrontations between agency staff, visitors, individuals served, or other persons at assigned sites.
    • Serves individuals by answering questions and providing directions to proper building or office.
    • Documents & reports suspicious activity.
    • Attends all trainings and meetings as directed.
    • Performs other duties as assigned.

    • Able to maintain a high level of professionalism and confidentiality.
    • Must attend bi-annual training classes and meet minimum requirements as designated for position.
    • Ability to apply common sense in carrying out job responsibilities.
    • Ability to exercise tact and diplomacy in interacting with internal/external customers.
    • Ability to work cooperatively as part of a large region.
    • Ability to interact with staff and consumers with a high degree of professionalism.
    • Ability to multi-task and accommodate high volume workload.



    • High School graduate or GED with a minimum requirement of one (1) to two (2) years’ of customer service experience.
    • Bilingual in Spanish a plus. 


    • Basic math skills required.
    • Ability to work with reports and numbers.
    • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out simple one or two-step instructions. Ability to deal with standardized situations with only occasional or no variables.


    • Use computer, printer, and software programs necessary to the position (e.g., Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint).
    • Ability to utilize Internet for resources.


    • Current State of Texas Driver License or if you live in another state, must be currently licensed in that state. If licensed in another state, must obtain Texas Driver License within three (3) months of employment.
    • Liability insurance required if employee will operate personal vehicle on Center property or for Center business. Must be insurable by Center’s liability carrier if employee operates a Center vehicle or drives personal car on Center business. Must have an acceptable driving record.
