Metrocare is the largest provider of mental health services in Dallas County, serving more than 52,000 adults and children annually. For more than fifty (50) years, Metrocare has provided an array of services available to people with mental and developmental disabilities. In addition to behavioral health services, Metrocare provides primary care centers for adults and children, accessible pharmacies, housing and supportive social services. Through the Altshuler Center for Education & Research and our software initiative, XenatiX, we are advancing mental health beyond Dallas County.

 

The primary purpose of the Peer Support Specialist is to lead peer-to peer discussion groups (12-sessions per course) following the patient and family education guidelines provided by Texas Implementation of Medical Algorithms (TIMA) program

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: (Other duties may be assigned.) The essential functions listed here are representative of those that must be met to successfully perform the job. 

  • Provide recovery support to patients and families in the community
  • Provide personal coaching to patients & families in the community
  • Assist with appointments and daily functions. Majority of appointments are home visits
  • Document services provided into PsychConsult
  • Maintain confidentiality of reports
  • Monitor and assess consumers’ progress.
  • Complete other duties as assigned by supervisor.
  • Certification with Via Hope within 1 year of employment

Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:            

HS Diploma or GED required with 1 to 3 years experience in MH/MR or related field preferred.

 

REASONING ABILITY: 

  • Ability to coordinate with other service providers and their schedules.
  • Ability to organize workflow and develop efficient procedures.
  • Ability to problem-solve, exercise good judgment, and make sound decisions.
  • Skilled in using tact and diplomacy in interacting with staff and consumers.
  • Ability to work as a team member.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize tasks.
  • Able to work independently with minimal supervision.

COMPUTER SKILLS:

  • Intermediate level on Email and word processing programs
  • Ability to utilize Internet for resources.
  • CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, TRAINING, REGISTRATIONS:

  • CPR and SAMA
