Metrocare is the largest provider of mental health services in Dallas County, serving more than 52,000 adults and children annually. For more than fifty (50) years, Metrocare has provided an array of services available to people with mental and developmental disabilities. In addition to behavioral health services, Metrocare provides primary care centers for adults and children, accessible pharmacies, housing and supportive social services. Through the Altshuler Center for Education & Research and our software initiative, XenatiX, we are advancing mental health beyond Dallas County.

 

The Licensed Clinical Social Worker is primarily responsible for monitoring services and providing Community Support Services and therapeutic services. The LCSW uses a basic knowledge of diagnostic characteristics, symptomology of primary mental illness and a knowledge of medications, side effects and benefits to provide services in a person-centered, supportive, community-based environment.

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: (Other duties may be assigned.)

  • Attends all treatment team staffings and is alert to opportunities for promoting/providing psychosocial rehabilitation or use of community resources for consumers.
  • Contributes to team knowledge and understanding of each consumer.
  • Provides individual and small group training in living skills such as social skills, budgeting, mobility training, grocery shopping, menu planning, cooking, coping skills, personal hygiene, personal organization, home maintenance, etc.
  • Provides therapeutic counseling services in accordance with clinical algorithms.
  • Assists in completing intake assessments and diagnostic formulations as needed.
  • Coordinates services within the Agency and with other community providers.
  • Assists with the involvement and education of the consumer’s family at a level acceptable to the consumer.
  • Obtains authorizations as needed from third party payers.
  • Assists with monitoring and continued assessment of assigned consumers. These activities may require home visits.
  • Responds to crisis or potential crisis situations and ensures the appropriate level of care through the coordination of services or the provision of community support services.
  • Assists with on-call services in accordance with Agency procedures.
  • Facilitates skills training and therapeutic groups.
  • Provides transportation for consumers in an agency-provided vehicle to and from community resources or social activities as needed.
  • Assists consumers in planning and implementing social/leisure activities as appropriate, including taking consumers into the community for outings and social/leisure skills development or maintenance.
  • Documents services in the automated clinical record keeping system with 24 hours after services have occurred.
  • Maintains required productivity levels as outlined in Center policies.
  • Maintains confidentiality of information concerning consumers and family members.
  • All other duties as assigned. 

COMPETENCIES:

  • Analytical skills, professional acumen, business ethics, thorough understanding of continuous improvement processes,
    problem solving, respect for confidentiality, excellent communication and presentation skills.

Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Master’s degree in Social Services or related field with 2 to 3 years of mental health experience. Possess an advanced license. Current Texas License as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) or Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC). 

 

REASONING ABILITY:

  • Able to work autonomously and make sound judgments.
  • Ability to organize work flow and develop efficient procedures
  • Ability to problem solve, exercise good judgment, and make sound decisions.
  • Skilled in using tact and diplomacy in interacting with staff and consumers.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must demonstrate familiarity with community resources relevant to mental health
  • Must be able to implement and apply best practices techniques and interventions with target population.

    COMPUTER SKILLS:
  • Intermediate level on MS Excel, Email and word processing programs
  • Ability to utilize Internet for resources.

    CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, TRAINING, REGISTRATIONS:
  • Licensure as LCSW required.
  • CPR and SAMA
